Closing Thoughts on Festivus
Johannes Hartmann is Producer/Director at Decoy Collective and his short film, “Halbschlaf” took Best Short Short. Hartman said,
“Festivus is a small, but very charming film festival! These guys know how to treat filmmakers. Attending the festival and presenting my film there was such an awesome experience for me. And winning an award was the best possible ending for my stay in Denver.”
Animator and filmmaker Scott Renk, screened his short “Dias De Los Muertos” in the Abstract – Experimental Shorts Block. Renk said,
“The most amazing film festival experience one could ask for. A truly incredible time from the second I landed in Denver until the final drive to the airport. A huge thank you to all the Festivus staff, the film makers, and old friends as well for making this one of the greatest experiences I’ve had. Meeting everyone who had a hand in this is something I will never take for granted.
Festivus and Denver are a true gem. The bowling, the screenings, the after parties, the hospitality, the meeting “Wiggah” crew and making music till five in the morning. We all squeezed as much toothpaste out of that tube as we could. A true, true honor to have had been invited and welcomed.”
Local Denver filmmaker, Patrick Sheridan of Paddy Wagon Films, screened his short “The Barking Horse.” Sheridan said,
“Festivus is one of the few film festivals I would actually go out of my way to attend. Fortunately, it’s held every year right here in Denver so it only cost me a couple of bucks worth of gas money to get there. Festivus has become one of the best festivals for indie filmmakers to screen at because it supports unique voices and stories. Festivus has a well-deserved reputation for taking care of its filmmakers. This year was no exception.
When I completed my latest short film “The Barking Horse” I felt like Festivus would be the perfect place for its world premiere and, fortunately, it was accepted. The crowd at The Bug Theatre was very enthusiastic. An overall great experience. I hope to have something new to screen at next year’s Festivus. Can’t wait.”
