Can you handle the double auteur-ness of a Wes Ander-thon? Landmark Theatres in Denver is giving you a double dose of Wes Anderson films with his latest, “Moonrise Kingdom” opening at the Mayan Theatre and a Midnight Madness screening of his classic, “The Royal Tenenbaums” at the Esquire Theatre. “Moonrise Kingdom” opens Friday, June 8 and will most likely have a decent run at the Mayan, but “The Royal Tenenbaums” will only be at the Esquire at Midnight on Friday, June 8 and Saturday, June 9.
Critics have given a loving nod to Anderson’s latest film and it got expectantly pleasant reviews from it’s debut at the Cannes Film Festival. Known for his unforgettable ensemble casts, and for using Bill Murray more than Quentin Tarantino uses Samuel L. Jackson, this is one of Anderson’s best ensembles yet. It includes, Bruce Willis, Edward Norton, Frances McDormand, Tilda Swinton, Harvey Keitel and of course Anderson regulars, Jason Schwartzman and Bill Murry.
For “Moonrise Kingdom,” Anderson reunited with co-writer Roman Coppola from their screenwriting collaboration on “The Darjeeling Limited” with Schwartzman. If you’re a Wes Anderson admirer, you know what’s in store and word on the street is, he delivers his usual goods. Showtimes for “Moonrise Kingdom” at the Mayan and “The Royal Tenenbaums” Midnight Madness info can be found at landmarktheatres.com
